david holmes ’holiday girl’ (arab strap remix)
***
1997 saw arab strap go top 40 in the UK hit parade with their reworking of david holmes ‘don’t die just yet’.
renamed ‘holiday girl’, the arab strap version saw a typical vocal contribution from aidan moffat over david holmes take on the serge gainsbourg classic, ‘la melody nelson’.
arab strap ‘you shook me all night long’ (ac/dc cover)
from ‘the shy retirer’ ep.
coming from the filthy mouth of a man who could make the classified football results sound filthy, it should be no surprise that aidan moffat succeeds in making this song sound even filthier than it actually is. which is quite filthy, actually.
could i say the word ‘filthy’ any more?
‘filthy’. there you go.
aidan john moffat ’hopelessly devoted’
from the album ‘i can hear your heart’
i may have posted this before but what the hey? i’m posting it again.
this album is highly recommended. by me. as is anything to do with arab strap.

scenes of a sexual nature
good news for arab strap fans, translated (poorly) from a french website…
‘wallets fans of the scottish duo crossed over from history, get out your handkerchiefs! chemikal underground announces the collector versions emerged in 2 x cd full of bbc live sessions and unreleased from the week never starts round here and philophobia.
and also a box ‘scenes of a sexual nature’ box set out with the same two albums, sessions, live and lots of rarities … remember to ask for money to grandpa for christmas!’
lucky pierre
lucky pierre may refer to:
lucky pierre, a sexual position in a three-person sexual encounter,
the adventures of lucky pierre, nudie cutie/sexploitation film,
l. pierre, a musical project by scottish musician aidan moffat…

i always enjoyed arab strap’s more electronic excursions and would have loved them to have gone further down this route.
aidan moffat did just that, making arab strap sound like s club 7 with a series of dark, esoteric, experimental records under the pseudonym of l. pierre/ lucky pierre.
**
to use the seedy parlance of mr moffat himself, this track (part one of three from the ‘blank for your own message’ ep) is a bit of a cock-tease...
it starts very promisingly with a smothered piano riff and electronic hi-hat, then some wonky, unsettling keyboard strings. at about the two minute mark, just when it’s got it’s dirty fingernails right under your skin and seems to be building up to a crescendo, it then just turns and walks away, leaving you wondering what might have been.

the dirty bastard.
l. pierre ‘part one’
from ‘blank for your own message’ ep (1999)
